What to expect
Emily Beisel (bass clarinet, electronics) and Bill Harris (drums, electronics), known as Madam Orange, embark this fall on a special East Coast U.S. tour in support of their new record Parallax. Chicago-based improvisers Beisel and Harris use electronics, amplification, and feedback to expand their acoustic sounds, creating sonic worlds that shift from aggressive and dense to subtle and spacious. The duo has toured the Midwest (2024) and the East Coast/Canada (2023). Parallax, releasing on Chicago label Amalgam, will be available as an exclusive pre-sale on this tour.https://tinyurl.com/beiselharrisWith local improvisers: Leia Hohenfeld (flutes), Bbob Drake (electronics), Todd Masuda (guitar), Max Hyde-Perry (bass) Emily BeiselEmily Rach Beisel is a Chicago-based improviser, composer, educator, curator, and woodwind specialist known for visceral performances that blend extended vocal and instrumental techniques with analog electronics. A Jazz Noise describes their work as heavy stuff, sounds retrieved from the deeper places Beisel pokes around in the sonic depths and brings leviathans out to play.As curator, Beisel focuses on increasing femme, trans, and nonbinary visibility in creative performance. They founded the Pleiades Series at Elastic Arts, presenting monthly performances, community-based improvisation sessions, and the biennial PleiadesFest. Beisel holds a Master of Music from Northwestern University, is a member of AFM Local 10-208, and is a 2024 3Arts Awardee in Music.www.emilybeisel.comBeisels music is guttural and splendid, felt in our stomachs at one moment before twisting delicately across each individual pore.
